Brothers Row to Victory

| Daryl and Brett after their win |
Thiess Kentz proudly sponsored Daryl and Brett Bartho from South Africa in the Multiplex Avon Descent 134-km race from Northam to Bayswater, Western Australia. The two-day event (held Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th August) attracted hundreds of competitors, including a world-class contingent.
The brothers were the first to cross the finish line at Riverside Gardens, completing the distance in 8 hours, 20 minutes and 18 seconds - two minutes clear of their closest rivals, Ashley Nesbit (from Perth) and Marcus Brockhurst.
Not only did we enjoy the 1st place status but we also enjoyed 2nd too. Ashley Nesbit, who took second place, represented Thiess Kentz. In June this year, Thiess Kentz sponsored Ashley at the ARB Surf Ski World Cup held in South Africa. The Multiplex Avon Descent is Western Australia's own unique sporting event that attracts competitors and spectators from throughout Australia and overseas. Competitors challenge the Avon and Swan Rivers in a variety of paddle and power craft in an exciting two-day time trial over 134 gruelling kilometres.

Mentors and Mentees
|
|
July 23th and 24th, 2007 saw Kentz Mentor training take place at Kentz Midrand headquarters in South Africa, with participants travelling across the region. The two-day training workshop marked the formalisation of the mentoring process in the region, introducing group-wide processes.
The first day was for mentors only and focused on the mentoring role in Kentz, assessing and monitoring mentee progress, identifying and resolving mentee issues, reports, tracking and company interfaces. The “mentee” is the person being mentored, in Kentz normally a newly-qualified graduate or junior trades person.
The second day saw mentors meet with mentees and work through issues one-on-one and in groups. An initial presentation focused on career development within Kentz, and the final session of the day concentrated on embedding the mentoring process in the region.
The mentees were able to present issues and suggested actions to Eoin Hurley, Regional Managing Director, and Takis Karallis, Group HR Director. The event was organised and administered by Hayley Barker (Human Resources Manager) and her team. In all, 36 people completed the training.
