Frederick Ranjell Parreno |
Good Luck Frederick!
Frederick Ranjell Parreno joined Kentz in Saudi Arabia on 27th March 2004 as a Project Secretary. He worked on various projects including 588 GOSP, 600 JCP, 607 SCP, and most recently 612 Sharq.
Unfortunately while on vacation in the Philippines in 2008 Frederick was diagnosed with cancer. He left his job with Kentz to concentrate on beating his illness.
He fought hard and underwent the maximum 11 cycles of chemotherapy (the usual is four to six). When this didn't work he had to undergo surgery to remove the lymph nodes in his lungs and lower abdomen. This is a very risky surgery and his doctors told him that after it he would be cancer free but there was a 70% chance he would be bedridden. Despite the risks he underwent the surgery in April this year. When he got his subsequent blood results in May he found out the cancer had spread further. Understandably he was devastated but still carried on his fight for life.
Frederick returned to the doctors in July to have yet more blood tests done. They kept re-doing the tests as they thought there was something wrong. They couldn't believe the results before them – Frederick was cancer free!
All in Kentz in Saudi Arabia are thrilled with the news and wish Frederick a speedy recovery so he can get back to work, which is something he also desires.
Frederick would like to thank everyone in Kentz who helped him through this hard time! |

Safety at Home for
Thiess Kentz
As a safety initiative, Thiess Kentz recently introduced a safety cabinet in its Perth office. The cabinet is filled with some essential safety items for the use of all office-based employees.
Initiated by Andy Ozolins, Thiess Kentz's Western Region Operational Manager, and Rob Fietz, Health and Safety Co-ordinator, the undertaking is aimed at encouraging employees to utilise basic safety gear whilst performing household chores.
This initiative emphasises once again that safety is top priority for all within Thiess Kentz.

| Krusaders Back for Revenge |
Kentz Krusaders were back in fighting form this summer after their narrow defeat in the final of the 2008 Clonmel Rugby Club tag rugby competition. The 6-week competition featured 40 teams from companies in Clonmel and the surrounding areas, consisting of both male and female players. Each team has seven players, with at least two ladies required to be on the pitch at all times.
To the dismay of fellow team-mates, last year's star player, Michael 'Mully' Mulcahy, was relocated to Qatar earlier this year. There was no shortage of Kentz ladies up to the challenge, but Tom Dee, Group Financial Accountant, was the only Kentz man to step up to the plate. A male-player recruitment drive commenced and before long the places were filled. With an almost completely new-look team the Krusaders had a lot to prove.
They began the competition very well and were undefeated until their 4th match. The ladies scored many tries, which gave them the upper hand on their competitors - lady tries are worth three points, whereas male tries are worth one. The boys were equally as good with their fast pace and quick tagging abilities.
Alas, revenge was not on the cards as a few players got injured in the closing games which led to the Krusaders being narrowly beaten by their opponents. Although they didn't finish on top this year, there's no doubt the Krusaders will return again in 2010. Talks of a transfer deal to get 'Mully' back to Ireland have filtered through the grapevine, although that could just be wishful thinking!
All in Kentz in Clonmel would like to congratulate the Krusaders on a job well done despite their setbacks.

| Qatar Kentz & Friends Golf Society |
In February 2009 Kentz in Qatar formed the Kentz & Friends Golf Society with a view to getting together with friends and colleagues for nine holes of golf every Sunday evening.
The Doha Golf Club is the only grass golf course in the country and has both an 18-hole championship course on which the Qatar Masters is played every year, as well as a 9-hole course, known as the Academy Course on which our Kentz employees and friends play.
The committee of the society consists of Martin Walsh, Qatar Country Manager; Jon Harris, Materials Manager; and Brian Morgan, QA/QC Manager. Jon takes care of the weekly registration, checking of cards, updating the handicaps and the order of merit tables. Brian organises the handicap system which has been devised so that no matter what your handicap is, everyone is given a fair chance to win.
With each member contributing money into a kitty every week, the winnings can be rather good with first place taking 50%, second place 30% and third place the remaining 20%.
To date, the highest score has been 20 points, which was scored by Rory O'Donnell, Regional Development Director, Middle East.
Thanks must go to Martin, Jon and Brian for the time and effort they put in to this society. Long may it last! |
