Harry and Das

On 1st December 2008 the staff of Kentz in Abu Dhabi held a farewell party for Mr. Harold D’Souza (Harry), Senior Procurement Officer for the Abu Dhabi office, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. It was a very special evening for Harry, accompanied by his colleagues and Dr. Hugh O’Donnell, Chief Executive Officer, Kentz, and Ed Power, Chief Financial Officer, Kentz.

Harry joined Kentz Abu Dhabi in April 1992 and has decided to retire after fifteen years with the company and spend some time with his family in Mumbai, India. Harry worked on various projects as a Project Site Administrator/Purchaser, where he was known for his discipline and hard work. He was instrumental in the successful delivery of projects he worked on, such as Taweelah 400kV Sub-Station, Mina Power Station, Abu Dhabi Gas Turbine Project, RDCS & RUP Projects at GASCO, Ruwais, Fujairah Water Pipeline Project and more recently OGD III.

The party was held at Heroes in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Abu Dhabi, and Das Nambiar, Financial Manager for Kentz in Abu Dhabi, spoke very highly of Harry and wished him a happy and prosperous future. Harry was presented with a special plaque in recognition of his long service with Kentz in the Middle East. He thanked the management and staff for the co-operation and support afforded to him during his time with Kentz.

On behalf of all in Kentz in Abu Dhabi we wish Harry and his family a happy and peaceful retirement.

Future in Sight
On 11th November 2008 Kentz sponsored a hole at the 2nd Annual Standard Chartered Ladies Golf Tournament, which was held at the Doha Golf Club in Qatar.

The contribution was in aid of "Seeing is Believing", a Standard Chartered Bank global initiative which comprises of projects focusing on the prevention and reversal of avoidable blindness. Kentz's contribution will go towards paying for cataract operations, the training of eye-care doctors and the building of training facilities and vision centres around the world.

Over 120 ladies took part in the tournament on the day and Darrell Breaux, Marketing Executive, attended the luncheon and prize-giving on behalf of Kentz.

Overall the charity function was a huge success and Kentz looks forward to supporting it again next year.

Madagascar a Multi-national Site
  South African workers
  South African workers

Kentz South Africa’s QIT Project in Madagascar has a number of different nationalities working on the project. The dynamic blend of nationalities has allowed the team to bring new perspectives and attitudes to their work, which has contributed greatly to the success of the project.

By investing in cultural diversity we have created a larger talent pool which will ensure that we maintain our competitive edge within the engineering and construction industries in which we operate. It is only natural that people who have varying life experiences and perspectives would be able to come up with innovative solutions to problems – this may not be the case in groups that think similarly. This is of great value to our organisation.

Shane a Basketball Demon

Shane with the Cup
Shane Coughlan, who works as a Maintenance Electrician for the Novartis Ringaskiddy project in Co. Cork for Kentz Ireland, recently captained the University College Cork (UCC) Blue Demons to victory in the National Basketball Cup Final. The Demons took on DART Killester from Dublin at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght, Dublin on Saturday 25th January.

The opening quarter closed with Killester leading by five points but the Demons clawed their way back in the second half with Shane levelling the score. UCC scored on the final whistle to lead at half time by 40-38. They continued their scoring run in the third quarter and led going into the final period by fifteen points. Killester fought back hard but the Demons lived up to their name and the game finished UCC Demons 98 – DART Killester 86

  UCC Blue Demons

From all in Kentz in Ireland we would like to congratulate Shane on this magnificent achievement during his first year as caption of UCC. Hopefully, we will have more good news to report on the Demons in the near future!

Children’s Christmas Party, South Africa

Children enjoying the slip-and-slide

Santa Claus, gifts, tractor rides, party packs, a slip-and-slide (water slide), a magic show, candy floss and lots more were on offer for Kentz employees and their little ones at Kentz’s annual children’s Christmas party in South Africa. The event was organised by Pat Cass, Regional Marketing/Public Relations Executive, and Hayley Barker, Regional Human Resources Manager, and was held at Blanford Manor in Northriding.

The response was huge with a great turnout by parents, grandparents and children. Fortunately the weather was onside as it was a beautiful hot, sunny day, with tables set out under the lush green willow trees. There was a wonderful atmosphere with all enjoying a light lunch followed by Santa arriving on a tractor to hand out gifts to the children, much to their delight.

The slip-and-slide was a great hit and judging from the look on some parents’ faces, it certainly seemed as though there were several who would have liked to have joined their kiddies!
