Healthy = Happy in Qatar

Qatar Workshop Attendees
Some of the workshop attendees

On 24th March Kentz HSE Department in Qatar conducted a Health Campaign Workshop in the recreation hall of the Kentz Camp in the Pearl GTL Village in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar.

The workshop was held to educate and create awareness around Tuberculosis (TB) for the Kentz employees living on site. Coinciding with World TB Day, it also provided workers the opportunity to ask doctors questions or discuss any concerns they might have around TB.

A medical team from Rumailah Hospital in Doha also attended and gave a talk to provide the attendees with more information on TB and to clear up any misconceptions some may have had.

After the talk, a quiz and raffle draw was held and many prizes were handed out.

This forms part of a series of workshops in the Health Campaign that Kentz is running for all employees living in camps in Qatar.

Thank you to all who attended and we hope to see you at the next workshop.

Gaelscoil Chluain Meala – Oíche Rasaí Capaill
(Clonmel Irish School – Horse Race Night)
Kentz Ireland kindly supported Gaelscoil Chluain Meala during the recent “Seachtain na Gaeilge” (Irish week), which helped to raise much-needed funds for the school. Gaelscoil Chluain Meala Seachtain na Gaeilge

Seachtain na Gaeilge is a two-week festival held throughout Ireland and this year the festival ran in early March and finished on St. Patrick’s Day. The aim of the festival is to promote the Irish language and Irish culture both nationally and internationally through various events including speed-dating, “Twister” in Irish, music nights and snooker. There is always a lot of fun associated with Seachtain na Gaeilge.

Comhghairdeas do na daoine go leor a raibh i gafa le Seachtain na Gaeilge mar bhí an-rathúil é! (Congratulations to everyone involved in organising Seachtain na Gaeilge as it was a very successful event!)

Changing Times - Randburg to Midrand

In 1986 Kentz occupied only the top floor of an office building in Randburg, South Africa. There were no computers and the reception area consisted of a basic desk in a hallway with a tiny switchboard consisting of eight incoming lines, no voicemail options or any of the modern technology we enjoy today.

How times have changed – we have grown and upgraded over the years, with the Midrand office now boasting a modern, high-technology switchboard with direct lines, voicemail, speaker phones, as well as computers, a modern reception and new building.

Sandy Hugo has been with Kentz throughout all these changes. She started out in the “passage” reception area in 1986 in the Randburg office. She is still our receptionist today, 23 years later. She is a very dedicated and hard-working employee and all in Kentz in South Africa would like to thank her for her efforts.

Top Finish for Sporting Champ!

On 3rd May Thiess Kentz’s Gavin Fee (Electrical Site Engineer based at the Xstrata Zinc Zn Pb Concentrator Revamp Project) participated in the Gregory River Canoe Race. The Gregory River is situated close to the Northern Territory border in Mount Isa. It is a 43km marathon and is one of the largest and most isolated canoe races in Australia.

Gavin, who is well known to all his Thiess Kentz supporters for his triathlon and half marathon abilities, competed for the first time in a river race and triumphantly crossed the finish line in 4th place in his K1 Kayak.

Well done, Gavin, from all in Thiess Kentz!

  World Water day 2009
Recently ten large drums were donated to Sasolia Primary School, Secunda, by the Kentz office in Secunda, South Africa. This was to coincide with World Water Day on 22nd March.

The school is planning to use the drums to collect rain water which will then be used to water their plants. An “Eco Committee” consisting of six teachers and 12 children was selected to manage the whole campaign and this committee will be supported by the rest of the school. Jason English, Site Manager, Maintenance & Shutdown Division, and Brandon Reddy, Human Resources/Industrial Relations Co-ordinator, Maintenance & Shutdown Division, Secunda, handed over the drums to the excited children.
