The initial round of Kentz Project Systems (KPS) training took place in Qatar at the end of 2008. Over the course of two weeks 33 participants from Kentz‘s four regions took part in the seminars that will enable them to train local users in understanding the purpose, procedures and implementation of each respective system.
A product of the Integr8 team’s endeavours over the previous two months, the KPS software suite consists of the Document Management System (DMS), the Procurement and Materials Management System (PAMMS), the Project Cost Management System (PCMS), and the Construction and Completions Management System (CCMS). Each of these systems will be beta-tested during the first quarter of 2009.

L-R: Christy Das (Administration Manager), Tom Cullen (Country Manager), Felix Dias (Procurement Officer), John Thomas Mullarkey (QA/QC Engineer) and Cathal Hurley (Business Development Manager) |
On Thursday 15th January the staff from the Kentz office and the Kentz Fluor PMC Project in Kuwait celebrated the New Year at the Radisson SAS Hotel in Safat.
There were in excess
of 300 people in attendance, including family and friends of employees. Peter Wilson, Project Director, Fluor, kicked off the evening, welcoming everyone to the colourful event. This was followed by a fantastic dinner, music and dance. The music was provided by the ‘Lounging Criminals’. There was also a draw, with prizes being donated by both Kentz and Fluor. Some attendees went home with some fabulous prizes.
Everyone who attended the event had a great time and thank-you to the organisers for hosting such a great party. Hopefully next year will be just as good! |
| Malaysia Christmas Celebrations |
|
Management and staff from the Kentz office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, enjoyed an evening out to celebrate the Christmas holiday season on Friday 12th December 2008. The event, a scrumptious three-course meal, was held at the TwentyOne restaurant and was also attended by members of the Kentz Board of Directors.
A great evening was had by all and everyone is looking forward to next year‘s celebrations already!
Top right: Everyone enjoying the night

| Charity Marathon Run |
On 5th April 2009 four Kentz employees based in Qatar will be attempting the great feat (no pun intended!) of running the Paris Marathon. The race, commencing at the Champs Elysées and finishing at Foch Avenue, is approximately 42 km around the city.

| L-R: Andy, Killian, Shane and Colm |
|
Killian Coleman (Project Engineer), Shane Kelly (Trainee Engineer), Colm Coyle (Trainee Business Development Executive) and Andy Daykin (Trainee Engineer) have been training hard since Christmas, running 30-40 miles (48-62 km) a week. Sacrifices with regards to their social lives have been made but it will be worthwhile when they achieve their goal in April.
The boys are running for two different charities and any donation would be greatly appreciated.
Killian, Shane and Colm are all running for the Irish Heart Foundation and donations can be made at http://www.mycharity.ie/event/colm-killian-shaneparis2009/.
Andy is running for the Guide Dogs in the United Kingdom and donations can be made at http://www.justgiving.com/andywinstheparismarathon.
From all in Kentz, and especially your colleagues in Qatar, best of luck, guys! |
| Australia Bowled Over |
On Friday 30th January Thiess Kentz’s Perth Project Managers Mal Nichols and Greg Davis took time out with some clients to watch an exciting game of cricket. The one-day international between Australia and South Africa took place at the WACA Stadium in Perth.

Back Row (L-R): Murray Tartaglia (Mechanical Site Superintendent W2WA), Nor Baharuddin (Senior Engineer), John Holland, Mal Nichols (both Project Managers in ThiessKentz), Justin Gurney (Senior Associate, Hassell) |
With office rivalry rife, Mal and Greg were challenged to fly the South African flag and to back the Proteas but being die-hard Australian fans they patriotically declined!
Failing to meet the challenging target of 288 with a loss of 6 wickets set by the South Africans, the Australian team were all bowled out before a sell-out crowd of 18,000 allowing the South African Proteas to be crowned the world’s best one-day team.

| BBQ Fun in the Sun |
 |
| Above and below: Employees enjoying the good food and fabulous sunshine |
To end off 2008, Brenda Carter, Kentz Midrand‘s Corkonian Chairlady, arranged a Christmas barbecue (braai) for all the staff. Unfortunately though, it seemed that she had the wrong season as she wore a blue ‘furry’ Alice-band instead of reindeer antlers.
A draw was held with all sorts of donated goodies as prizes. It was a gloriously hot sunny day with loads of laughter and fun. Takis Karallis, Head of Group Human Resources was invited as he was in town and clearly enjoyed the good weather! Hugh Wood, Kentz’s Insurance Broker, also joined in the fun.
Thank you to Brenda Carter for organising such a good event and all in the office are looking forward to the next braai. |
Engagement
Congratulations to Michelle Reynolds, Thiess Kentz‘s Human Resource Advisor in Brisbane, and Ian Wiltshire on their engagement in February. After a two-and-a-half-month courtship and not wasting anytime, Ian proposed to Michelle. The couple don‘t plan to be engaged for too long either, with their big day set for Sunday 20th September 2009.
