To mark Mick O'Keeffe's outstanding achievement of 50-years service with Kentz and in light of his recent retirement, Kentz Ireland hosted a barbecue in the garden of the Head Office, Clonmel on Thursday 13th September.
A marquee was erected for the occasion, with an excellent turnout of over 100 people, including family, friends, and Mick's work colleagues from throughout the years.
Noel Kelly, Pat O'Shea, and Dave Halligan spoke very highly of Mick. They told plenty of stories about him over the years, from when he started his apprenticeship with Kentz in 1957 up to his recent retirement. Noel went on to unveil the “Micko Tree”, which was planted as a tribute to Mick’s hard work and dedication over the years. Pat presaented Mick with a voucher for a hotel stay in Killarney, on behalf of Kentz Ireland, and Dave presented him with a motorised golf cart, a ball retreiver and a Waterford Crystal lamp on behalf of the Kentz staff at Waterford Regional Hospital. His wife, Nan, was also presented with a bouquet of flowers by Mary McGrath.
The barbecue was provided by local caterer Barbara Russell, and Ned Ryan entertained the troops with the aid of Paul O'Brien on the guitar and Nan O'Keeffe on the accordion. Luckily, the weather held off and a great night was had by all.
Kentz would like to wish Mick all the best in the future.

| Gertie Climbs the Ladder... |
Kentz employed Gertie Mabizela in 1987 as a tea lady. She was keen to better herself, and was subsequently taught how to operate the fax machines. Gertie was responsible for both incoming and outgoing faxes, as well as mail distribution, and the busy mail room became her domain. Gertie has since progressed to office assistant. She is still responsible for incoming and outgoing mail and has been taught to master basic computer skills.
Congrats Gertie!

For the junior engineers present the Frontline Management Skills workshop is an integral part of their Supervisory Management Development Programme (SMDP) of experiential learning. For the more senior participants the workshop formed part of an ongoing skills enhancement process.
Topics covered included modules on: introduction to management; becoming a manager; effective supervision; developing work priorities; creating working relationships; managing conflict at work; effective communication; and understanding Kentz management information.
Also in this series of workshops is the Kentz Functional Development workshop and Frontline Leadership Skills workshop. A comprehensive range of Skills Enhancement courses are additionally being offered across the Kentz Group.
Grateful thanks go to Hayley Barker and her team for on-the-ground organisation, and James Cassin (Group Quality & HSE Manager) for reviewing and enhancing workshop materials.
